When was the last time you took
a shot and actually tried to hit the hole? Was it that ten foot putt you had on
the 18th the other day
possibly to win
your match? Or was it
the two footer coming back?
Did you really "TRY" to make it?
Or were you just hoping that it "MAY"
just get close enough to get lucky and "MAYBE"
fall in? What I'm alluding
to is fundamental to any professional athlete
in that, no matter what your sport, you oft-times
simply must "TAKE DEAD AIM" at
your target!
Can you imagine a Quarterback not knowing
exactly where his receiver is going to be
at a given moment and zeroing in on that spot? Worse yet, can you imagine standing
in the batter's box facing a blindfolded and
angry Randy Johnson? Friend,
you had better not be in the box without King
Arthur's suit of armor covering every bit
of flesh and bone!
Golf is no different!
You must have an exact target you are
aiming at. The very next shot you take (including
all "range" practice), stand
behind the ball for a few seconds and focus
like the Pros do. Line up your shot with something
(an object) around two or three feet directly
in front of your ball and in-line with the
target. Use this as an alignment tool even
if it's no more than a brown blade of grass.
Make a habit of doing this. 'Tis lots easier
lining up your feet and body with an object
a short distance in front of you, rather than
something 400+ yards away. Even
on tee shots, you must have a definite
target you are trying to hit. "Oh...
just anywhere on the course will do"... doesn't cut it!
Once you have your intended line, and have
made up your mind what kind of swing you need
to make to deliver the shot, visualize the
ball going thru the air and hitting that spot
dead center
Now just do it! Let it happen! Most importantly, practice this drill on the range until you BELIEVE IN IT!
Let's take this thought even further down
the fairway. Next time you have a club in
your hands with which you can reach the green,
my goodness, don't just try to hit the green
try to actually make it go in the hole! See it going thru the air, hitting
the green and with one bounce, disappear into
the cup! Unless of course... you're coming down the fairway of the 72nd hole of a tournament with a one stroke lead, and all you need is a par to win, then "Take Dead Aim" at the center of the green!
Aggressive play
is a vital asset of the world's greatest
golfers. However, it's even more important
to the average player. Attack this
game in a bold, confident, and determined
way, and you'll make a giant leap
toward realizing your full potential
as a player... Greg Norman

Sez Woody... The object of all this of course,
is to greatly narrow any "miss"
of your target. Narrow the "miss"
and you will be writing smaller numbers
on the score card. You can do this, when you consistently "TAKE
DEAD AIM"!
